About This Blog

This blog is run by a 22-year-old, vegan, second-year university student from Australia - me! I've started this blog as a way to kick-start my writing career and, more importantly, to spread the word about veganism. I'm certainly not the best writer in the world at this stage. I'm simply looking to improve my skills, gain experience in the blogging industry, promote veganism and have a bit of fun along the way!

This blog centres entirely around veganism, as you could probably tell by the title. The blog is written for vegans by a vegan. My goal is to make sure that no question about veganism (no matter how controversial) goes unanswered. I also love writing tips and guides... plus the occasional light-hearted, often cute-animal-related post to brighten everyone's day :)

I currently post new articles as often as possible - which can vary, since I'm often busy with university and work commitments.

My Vegan Journey

I've always considered myself an animal lover. I grew up with two dogs that I absolutely adored. They were my best friends growing up. I surrounded myself with plush toy animals and pretended to care for them. In primary school, when we had to make a collage of photos, most people chose photos of their school friends. I chose photos of dogs.

I was six years old when I first discovered veganism. I have Lisa Simpson to thank for my epiphany, as it was the Simpsons episode "Lisa the Vegetarian" that finally opened me up to the truth. After realising what meat really was, I couldn't fathom the thought of eating it anymore.

That night, we had roast beef for dinner - my favourite food at the time. I vividly remember staring down at my meal, unable to take a bite. I tried to cover the beef with tomato sauce to make it less sickening to eat, but that only made things worse. The sauce looked like blood.

It was then and there that I decided I'd never eat meat again, and I've never looked back.

I didn't discover veganism properly until age 18. Prior to that, I never really understood it. I thought vegans were crazy and extremely disciplined. I didn't know how I'd ever go without chocolate or ice-cream (how naive, right?)!

I started learning about the world of veganism through Tumblr. I was in denial at first and refused to believe anything that I read or saw.

A while later, I was browsing through YouTube watching videos of "How Stuff is Made". Particularly a video about bubble gum. After finishing that video, which I was watching with my boyfriend, I decided on a whim to search for "How Meat is Made". I wanted to show my boyfriend the process, hoping it would influence him to stop eating meat.

The video ended up having a much more profound impact on me than it did on him. The video showed horrifying scenes of the dairy and egg industries. After witnessing such horror, I decided to become vegan immediately.

It wasn't difficult at all, and it was the best choice I've ever made. The transition was immediate and very smooth. I'll never, ever look back.

Thanks, Kind Reader
